About Me

Hi I’m Mary!
Every day in my life is a new adventure, which starts at first light each morning with my 7 pound apricot adorable Malti-poo alarm clock named Winnie licking me in the face. I too often cave to my addictions to Starbucks, traveling and buying guitars, but I have good intentions and try to make the right choices everyday.
The music business is a fast paced lifestyle which pulls me in many directions – song writing, branding and marketing, practicing vocals and instruments, networking, recording and practicing copyright law to name a few. Hot Power Yoga at my favorite little studio on 34th Street in Lubbock keeps me grounded – where I am always greeted with a smile and a kick butt workout, and it is where if find my breath and my peace.
My life has been music for as long as I can remember, and I started singing at the Cactus Theater at age 7. I’m constantly singing or rapping to my favorite songs like "I'm Sorry Miss Jackson" by OutKast " or "Just lose it" by Eminem or anything by Taylor Swift. At 14 I wrote my first recorded song with an old school Nashville songwriter, the late A.J. Masters, who taught me that the melody mattered. A.J. used to say “Mary, before there were Pro Tools, there were Pros”.
The process of creating a song energizes me. Fitting the right lyrics and melodies in place is like trying to put the hardest puzzle together, but then you get to step back and look at what you created. Music is so pure and I love that it brings people together. We all have our own lives and our own story, and one song might mean something to me and something totally different to someone else.
I have 6 smallish tattoos that each have a story of their own. On one ankle is “Both Sides Now”, my tribute to Joni. On the other ankle is a Seraphina that was designed by my late brother Tom. I lost both my Dad and my brother to addiction, and my songwriting reflects my love and heartache for them. Then I have a treble cleft and bass cleft on either wrists, self explanatory.
Last is on an ankle, simply, 806/615, the area codes for my homes, Lubbock/Nashville. I moved to Nashville at the urging of some music professionals there two months after I graduated from high school and lived there for 8 years before I returned to Lubbock to be close to family. Lubbock is also rich with talented musicians and has an active music scene.
While in Nashville I got a degree in worship music and got my “degree” in the school of hard knocks of the country music business that didn’t really welcome women into the world of “Bro Country”. Still, my song “The Idea of You” reached 42 on the Music Row chart, and I had a great time going on radio tour promoting it.
My big news is that my new pop album, RAW, is streaming everywhere. This record is about navigating life in my 20's. I wrote about falling in love, suffering devastating heartbreak, making true friendships, and coping with the pressures and anxieties of life. RAW is truly me at my most vulnerable, and I left everything I had on the mat, as we say in yoga.
I want to say thank you to all my fans who have stood by me all these years. You are my why. Can’t wait to see you on tour!
